Major Crimes Training: Drug Trafficking from an AML Perspective
Course Description: This 1-hour course explores the nature and history of the four primary classes of trafficked drugs in terms of value, which is the relevant benchmark for a money laundering analysis. The course also explores the history of drug trafficking activity, including significant historical events such as the Opium Wars and the dismantling of the French Connection. Having established a firm understanding of both major drugs and the history of drug trafficking activity, the course then concludes with an analysis of how drug trafficking activity can impact a financial institution from a money laundering perspective, and how this risk exposure can be managed.
Course Learning Objectives: The objectives of the course are to help financial services professionals, law enforcement agents and other industry participants: identify the nature and history of drug trafficking activity; demonstrate how historical developments in drug trafficking activity have shaped the current state of the industry; discuss the development of risk controls to manage drug-trafficking-related money laundering vulnerabilities; apply money laundering risk management principles and techniques to solve an interactive scenario
